500,000 devices. The portal is live. No nationwide deadline has been announced yet.
Pakistan is giving away 500,000 free Chromebooks to top-scoring students over the next two years, and the application portal is already live at pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk. There is no nationwide deadline announced yet, but boards are already sending student lists to IBCC, so check your record now.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally launched the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme in Islamabad on October 25, 2026. Here’s a complete breakdown of who is eligible, how many devices each province gets, what documents you need and how to apply.
What is the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme?
It is a federal programme run by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training with the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. The goal is 500,000 Chromebooks in two years. Every device comes with a bag and a MiFi internet device for remote learning. The PM’s Youth Programme chairman, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, has said the government will also provide high-speed internet connections to the students.
The TT Care Foundation has committed to supply the devices under a letter of understanding. Geo News, citing officials, reports they are refurbished Chromebooks.
Who can apply?
Selection is purely merit-based and runs through your education board.
- Grade 9 (SSC-I) students with a minimum of 50% in their latest SSC-I result.
- Government school students are eligible. Students at private schools funded through provincial education foundations are also eligible, according to officials. Regular private school students are not.
- Madrassa students are eligible too. Registered madaris are vetted separately by the Directorate General of Religious Education.
- In AJK, Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan, TechJuice reports that students can also apply from Grade 10 (SSC-II). Confirm this on the portal for your board.
Ranking happens within each province or region, board and stream, until the quota runs out.
How many Chromebooks does each region get?
| Region | Chromebooks |
|---|---|
| Punjab | 181,090 |
| Islamabad | 100,000 |
| Sindh | 85,925 |
| Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | 51,170 |
| Balochistan | 31,815 |
| Azad Jammu and Kashmir | 25,000 |
| Gilgit-Baltistan | 25,000 |
Inside each region, four of every five devices go to school students and one goes to madaris students. Among school students, 70% of devices go to science and 30% to arts.
What documents do you need?
Keep these four ready as scans before you start. Each file must be under 300 KB.
- Recent passport-size photo
- SSC-I or SSC-II mark sheet
- Attested copy of your B-Form or CNIC
- Attested copy of a parent’s CNIC
How to apply: step by step
| Step | What to do | Details |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Open the official portal | Go to pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk. Use this link only, and avoid unofficial websites. |
| 2 | Select your education board | Choose the board your SSC result came from. |
| 3 | Enter your details | Add your CNIC or B-Form number and date of birth. |
| 4 | Check your record | The portal matches you against the list your board sent to IBCC. |
| 5 | Upload your documents | All four documents, each under 300 KB. |
| 6 | Submit | Review everything first. |
Before you submit: you can apply only once, and you cannot edit the form afterwards. Wrong information can cancel your allocation.
What if your record isn’t on the portal?
IBCC works from the data your board sends, so the fix is at the board level. Contact your school or education board and ask them to confirm your details were forwarded. Boards like BISE Peshawar have already shared their eligible Grade 9 lists with IBCC.
What happens after you apply?
Officials say each Chromebook will be linked to its recipient by serial number and checked against merit, enrolment and delivery details. Devices will go directly to verified students by courier, with a central system tracking every dispatch and delivery. Repair and maintenance will come through a contracted firm after the first year. Grievance committees at board and provincial level will handle complaints about merit ranking, exclusion from lists and devices not received.
The bigger picture
Shehbaz Sharif compared the rollout to the earlier PML-N laptop scheme, which handed out about 600,000 laptops over a decade. This one targets 500,000 Chromebooks in 24 months.
The deadline to watch: none has been confirmed nationwide, and it may vary by board. Check your board’s notification and the portal regularly.
