Peshawar to Kuala Lumpur: How Pakistani Co-founder Hassan Ahmed Helped Secure a Massive $62.5M Series B for Respond.io

3 min read

ISLAMABAD — In a major milestone for cross-border entrepreneurial success, Pakistani tech leader Hassan Ahmed has helped steer Malaysia-based customer conversation platform Respond.io to a massive $62.5 million Series B funding round.

Ahmed, a Peshawar native and alumnus of the University of Peshawar, serves as the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the venture. The funding round was led by New York growth equity firm Camber Partners—known for its early-stage backing of SaaS giants like Dropbox and Pipedrive—alongside return investments from Endeavor Catalyst, whose board is chaired by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.

A Structural Infrastructure for AI Scale

Founded in 2017 by Gerardo Salandra, Hassan Ahmed, and Iaroslav Kudritskiy, Respond.io has built a powerhouse infrastructure that unifies fragmented customer touchpoints. The software enables mid-market business-to-consumer (B2C) companies to manage high volumes of customer chats and calls seamlessly across WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, Telegram, and WeChat.

While many lightweight platforms function purely as basic chatbots, Respond.io has focused heavily on the core infrastructure. The enterprise handles over 2 billion messages per quarter for more than 10,000 businesses across 180 countries—including global brands like Toyota, British Airways, and Decathlon.

This robust technical architecture has driven incredible financial health. Respond.io currently operates at a 30% profit margin and boasts $35 million in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), representing a staggering 169% year-on-year growth.

Bridging the Capital Gap

The scale of this funding round draws a stark contrast to the domestic funding climate within Pakistan. According to ecosystem metrics, Pakistan-based startups raised between $36.6 million (disclosed equity via Data Darbar) and $74.23 million (including hybrid financing via Invest2Innovate) across all of 2025.

The fact that a single round secured by a Pakistani-led startup abroad nearly matches or exceeds the entire collective capital raised by the home ecosystem highlights the massive valuation and capital pool variance between local and more mature global markets. Pakistan’s domestic tech ecosystem remains far below its peak funding heights of $347 million and $331 million achieved in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

What’s Next for Respond.io

Having already built a dominant footprint across APAC, LATAM, and EMEA markets, the team plans to leverage the fresh $62.5 million capital injection to fuel aggressive expansion and targeted mergers and acquisitions (M&A) within North America and Europe.

For global enterprise customers looking to monetize conversational commerce, Ahmed’s built infrastructure proves that capital-efficient, highly scalable software models can win on a global stage, regardless of where the founders began their journey.
